Great Weekend At Southeastern Masters/Bob Boal Meet Raleigh, North Carolina, June 10 & 11, from National Masters News

Always one of the biggest masters outdoor meets this years event was no exception. Top marks in the field and on the track. In the throws Phil Caraher, M40, got his third meet over 16 meters in the shot put with a 16.48 (54' 3/4") throw. Only he has thrown farther in the U.S. this year and Gerald Vaughan, M75, got his sixth meet over 12 meters with a 12.74 (41' 9 1/2"). In the javelin Daniel Alonzo, M40, went 58.55 (192' 1"), second best in the U.S. this season and Michael Brown, M55, got his fifth meet over 55 meters with a 56.08 (184'). In the weight throw William Gramley, M75, got his second meet over 13 meters with a 13.56 (44' 6").

Doing her usual great job of throwing was Gloria Krug, W80. Gloria threw the shot 7.09 (23' 3 1/8"), the discus 16.69 (54' 9"), the javelin 15.36 (50' 4 3/4"), hammer 18.43 (60' 5 1/2"), the weight 8.29 (27' 2 1/4") and the super weight 6.15 (20' 2 1/8"). She also long jumped 1.89 (6' 2 1/2") and triple jumped 4.08 (13' 4 1/2"). In other jumps Thaddeus Wilson, M60, went 5.12 (16' 9 1/2") in the long jump, Eric Negley, M50, went 3.85 ( 12' 7 1/2") in the pole vault.

On the track in the sprints Tocatta Murphy, W40, and Loretta Woodward, W55, won their respective 100 and 200 meter races with Murphy running 13.67 and 27.64 and Woodward running 14.79 and 30.40. Second in the W40 200 was Maryline Roux who ran 28.56 and who took the 400 in 1:04.82. The M50 100 and 200 were close races between Rohan Stuart and William Yelverton as Stuart won both 12.53 to 12.63 and 25.12 to 25.34. Yelverton took the 400 in 55.54.

In the distances, Stephen Chantry, M55, won the 1500 in 4:42.42 and the 400 in 1:01.76. Zola Pieterse, W45, took her 1500 in 5:05.42 the top time this season. In M60 Rob Jackson won the 400 in 1:00.55 and the 800 in 2:26.41 and M70 runner Maurice McDonald took the 400 in 1:05.95 and the 800 in 2:54.90. In the 5000, Gary Moss, M60 [editted], ran 19:23.55.
